Roller Hockey Logos Part V: The Chicago Cheetahs

Today I'm starting with Part V of my terrible logos of the Roller Hockey League. Today, I'm highlighting the Chicago Cheetahs. The Cheetahs were in the Roller Hockey League (officially called Roller Hockey International) from 1994 to 1995, and used the same logo for both seasons in the League.

Let's start with the ranting, shall we? First off, WAY too much orange. Orange is a good color on sports logos when used lightly as a highlight color. Orange is NOT good when used a lot like that. Some cheetahs aren't even orange. And I'm pretty sure that cheetagh's eyes aren't orange. This looks more like Chester Cheetah from the Cheetos bag.

Secondly, why is there an orange buzz saw behind the cheetah? What's it for? It is completely useless and only adds to the badness effect.

Roller Hockey Logos Part IV: The Calgary Rad'z

This is Part IV of my expose of the terrible logos of the Roller Hockey League. Up today is the Calgary Rad'z. The Rad'z came into the league in the RHL's ignaugural season in 1993 and lasted until 1994, using the same logo for both their seasons.

Let's start with the ranting.

What's up with the nickname? Rad'z? What is a Rad? And why is it apostrophe and then a z? How many sports logos have apostrophes.

I don't like the 'Roller Hockey' wordmark below the Z with the roller blade wheels. The font totally contrasts (and not in a good way) with the Rad'z wordmark.

This logo is a perfect example of why red, light blue, and mustard yellow should never, ever be mixed. It looks like someone puked up a bunch of nachos with blue Gatorade and some ketchup.

Roller Hockey Logos Part III: the Buffalo Wings

This is part III of my following of terrible logos from the Roller Hockey League. Today's post is actually the second one of the day, and this one is highlighting the Buffalo Wings. The Wings were an expansion RHL team, and played from 1997-1999 with the same logo.


Let's begin my rant, shall we?


First off, what's with the name? The Wings? Really? What's up with that? What kind of name is Wings? It's really whoever came up with the name's fault that their team has such a stupid logo.


Next, look at the G in Wings. There's a red hockey puck stuck in it. What's up with that! Seriously, and unnecesary addition to this terrible logo.


Next, the Teradactyl looks completly fake. How many dinosaurs were actually green? And why is it sliding down a slide?


Finally, the Buffalo wordmark totally throws off the Wings wordmark. It's unimaginitive, and screams 1996.

Roller Hockey Logos Part II: the Buffalo Stampede

This is part II of my terrible logos of the Roller Hockey League. In this post, I'll highlight (or lowlight) what's wrong with the Stampede's logo. Let's get a little history of the team. The Buffalo Stampede were founded in 1994 and played in the RHL from 1994-1995, and the Stampede used the same logo for their short tenure in the RHL.


The logo shown at right isn't as bad as the Anaheim Bulfrogs' logo the I showed in yesterday's post. I don't like the font. The L in Buffalo is strange, but pretty much the rest of the word is all right. The Stampede wordmark isn't good at all. It looks like a 6-year-old wrote the word in marker on his math homework.


I also don't like the weird 'corona' in the center of the buffalo's forehead, and the triangle beneath it. I don't know of any buffalo that has those features.


The buffalo's horns are way to eratic. The designer should've actually tried to make the logo looke like a real buffalo.


I don't know of any buffalo that's blue with red eyes, and sharp teeth. This thing looks more like what I imagine the Anti-Christ to look like rather than a buffalo.

Roller Hockey Logos: Part I, the Anaheim Bullfrogs

Roller Hockey logos are among the most embarassing ever for 'professional' sports. Here's part I of many highlighting (or lowlighting) Roller Hockey logos. First up the Anaheim Bullfrogs, who played in the RHL from 1993 to 1999, using the same logo throughout the Bullfrogs' entire tenure in the RHL.

The logo shown at right has so many things wrong with it, I don't know where to begin. Let's start with the crown: What is a crown doing on a 'bullfrog' who's on a roller hockey logo?

Answer: It's the Roller Hockey League.

What's on the frog's hands? Do frogs even have 'hands' per se?

Answer: It's the Roller Hockey League.

And what's that underneath the frog's mouth? It's yellow with

red polka-dots. I don't know anything on a frog that's yellow with red dots.

Answer: It's the Roller Hockey League.

And what's up with the frog's feet? It's like the frog had roller blade wheels surgically implanted in his feet.

And through it all, the purple diamond on the back p.o.'s me the most. There is no point for the diamond, there is no need for the diamond, and it totally contrasts the entire thing. So why is it there?

Answer: It's the roller hockey league.
